In celebration of Martin Luther King remembrance, the Colorado Black Round Table organized an afternoon symposium with various seminars, speakers, and activities focused on empowering black youth, their parents, and the community as a whole in providing pathways to success and fulfillment for young African Americans boys and girls. Many of Colorado’s most celebrated citizens shared their time and wisdom with the students as they gathered at Manual High School. They included former Mayor Wellington Webb, Senator Michael Bennett, Mayor Michael Hancock, former Denver Nugget Earvin Johnson, and dozens more.

DAA students participated in the activities and seminars. They, also, spent time in conversation with the various dignitaries, gleaning pearls of wisdom while sharing their hopes and dreams. DAA was represented by staff and Founders Simon Peter O’Hanlon and Cindy Van Cise. Lastly, Denver Achievement Academy was recently recognized by the Colorado Black Caucus for our role in providing “Positive People and Programs Serving the Community.” Our success in transforming lives of underserved youth is due in large part to The Denver Athletic Club for generously providing DAA and her students the opportunity to study for school and develop a measure of competitive competence in many of the sports offered by the DAC.

The Denver Achievement Academy Hosts Annual Run/Walk 201

On Wednesday, October 26th DAA founders, students and family members celebrated the end of fall bowling with a friendly competition. Parents and students received prizes for best scores of the night and enjoyed The Denver Athletic Club's pizza and drinks prepared especially for the occasion.

Gratefully, Denver Achievement Academy welcomes sharing an evening with members and guests at the September 23rd Back to The DAC celebration.  We have been honored to partner with The Denver Athletic Club in providing seventy plus underserved boys and girls over the past six years with tutoring, academic enrichment activities, training in multiple sports-for-life, and frequent opportunities to serve others. We offer a special thanks to those DAC members, board members, and staff who have been instrumental in helping us aspire to achieve our mission.

Denver Achievement Academy will have a presence in the Grand Foyer of The DAC with some of our volunteers and students eager to share our story.  DAA is serving while offering opportunities for DAC members to contribute to our success by purchasing fine art and sculptures donated by Art of Life Gallery, unique memorabilia from Latitude Sports, or simply completing a DAA pledge card and donating to the cause. Our students and volunteers will be present to help DAC members enjoy the evening at many of the concessions and activities set up throughout the facility.

JULY 27th 2017 "MATH BOOT CAMP"

On Thursday, July 27th DAA students graduated from a six-week Math boot camp hosted by the Colorado Association of Black Professional Engineers and Scientists (CAPBES).  Moises Pacheco-Lewingdon received an award for most improved student as he tested extremely well on the final evaluation. Also, Javan Labanga received the perfect attendance award.  Congratulations boys!  For the past six years DAA has partnered with CABPES to offer our students an enriching and stimulating experience over the summer that positions them for success in the classroom during the school year.  These projects and activities engage our students in uniquely designed exercises that foster greater appreciation and aptitude for math and science.  These experiences launch our kids toward new frontiers.

Denver Achievement Academy at The DAC was one of three organizations recognized by the Colorado Black Round Table (CBRT) at its annual summit October 17-18, 2017 for its decade long mission to serve the families of North Park Hill and Central West Denver.  The Gaining Ground in the Black Community Summit is organized by the CBRT to provide a comprehensive look into the state of affairs impacting the black community in Denver.  During the Summit, Denver Achievement Academy was honored for the work it is doing to provide underserved students and families an additional layer of support as an after school educational enrichment program.

DAA is grateful for the award and recognition as we are for our supporters, donors and partnerships. We offer a sincere expression of gratitude for the generosity of our friends and supporters. May the good things of life be yours in abundance; not only at Thanksgiving but throughout the coming year.
